It’s Coming

Pragyan is back. In it’s new form we expect to present the future of this world thorough our technical festival. With a horde of events that is sure to attract many more the next year. The online events have started and we have seen pretty good participation from several colleges in India and also abroad. In case you haven’t known and feel left out now, rev up and head on to http://www.pragyan.org Five more days and the curtains shall rise for a new episode of Pragyan.

Labyrinth, the Klueless style online event has been a hit with students. We expect a larger number of participants for the Second Set of Labyrinth that was released a few days back. With clever levels that shall have you hooked up to the internet and google (or a search engine of your choice), Labyrinth is worth a try, because at the end of the day you are going to have learnt a lot of things. Pragyan like every year has something or the other for everyone. For those just out of the hang over of Entrance Examinations, we have Principia. Then there is the Robotics based events, both workshops and competitions. Last year they went down well with the masses.

There are events for the Linux freaks too. Everyone wants to be unique, to be different from others. So won’t you wish to have your Computer and Operating System also customized so that it looks different from other’s Operating System. Try your hand at the Desktop Customisation (in Linux), competition at Pragyan, a subset of Tux Ventura.

The online events are for those who are unable to be physically present here at Trichy during Pragyan. To be fair with everyone, these online events permit students to be a part of this mega festival right from their homes or colleges. Thank the Internet! Oh wait, do you fancy the black hats? Have you felt of making the Internet a safer place by identifying holes and filling them? Then my friend, “Digital Fortress”, might be something you may wish to try out.

There are many more. As I said, something for everyone, to bring that special character within you so that you can play your role to change the future for a better one.

I have encountered this paragraph in lots of tutorials on Website design. Though it was from some Latin article or speech. In fact it is nonsense. Ripped up and stitched from Cicero’s The Purpose of Good and Evil. 

Finally I have found what that seemingly meaningless text means.

The New Me.

It’s been a really long time of almost 2 months 😀 since my last post. Off-blog life kept me busy, I must say. Examinations, friends, friends of friends, songs, movies, laptop, class notes, syllabus there wasn’t time for blogs. It’s just an excuse. If I wanted I could have made up time to spend for blogging, but I didn’t, I just couldn’t. That’s another excuse.

So I have decided now to turn on a new life and resume my blogging. I created my latest blog called “my seventh life“. Third semester, brought into my life many habits. Some good, some not so good. Cryptic Crossword fever struck me, an interesting way to building vocab. But they are so addictive,  you idle away with it, even when you have no progress. Then, I have started watching Hollywood movies, not the latest or the newest releases, but older ones. Well, I have learnt to control my urge to watch Movies, just once in a while. I don’t feel watching movies which make a statement as dawdle, because they force you to think, to relate yourself. It makes me develop my creativity, something which I haven’t dusted for a long time.

Sudoku was a craze, but not now. I do “Hard” and “Insane” once in a while, when numbers fascinate me. Of course, nothing to do with maths, just numbers. Third semester was full of surprises and miracles, joy and pain. I can feel a change in me, a transition. I don’t feel the way I was in school, I feel different and I am sure I will feel much more different soon.

A new interest in novels and mathematics now. Of course mathematics I loved, but now I adore it. Then came the jungle of Organic compounds. Now, more than just studying, I like to relate to it, find the relations, learn, understand and share.

Music was another thing that hit me. I was exposed to a galore of artists and albums. Then there was dance.

I shouldn’t forget Ubuntu. Changed my computing methods. I am now with Command Line Interface, faster and easier than Graphic User Interface. Only thing, you need to remember stuffs. Well CLI + GUI is a great combination! Moved away from Windows, almost completely.

Well, that’s lots of things done during this long semester that seemed too short. There is still one and a half months of winter vacation. Lots more to do!

Doing Nothing

It’s finally July, about two months since the beginning of summer holidays in May. Most of my friends have been complaining lately that the holidays had been pretty long and boring and they were simply vetti (meaning jobless in tamil). I find it them all amusing.

Many of my friends have put their orkut and gtalk status as “doing nothing”. Thoughts flow. How can you possibly do nothing? And what does nothing in fact mean? It could mean nothing more than, well, nothing!

When doing nothing, meaning sitting idle without doing anything productive, the body is idle, not the mind and soul. Your mind might be rumbling with random thoughts.  It’s difficult for the mind to remain blank/idle. You might feel that you are blank, washed out and thinking nothing, but the truth is you are not. You feel blank and thoughtless, when there is a sudden rush of creativity, imagination, ideas and thoughts through your mind. That’s what I believe. The volume of thoughts is so large that you just can’t remember what you have been thinking!

It’s like dreaming. Some remember the dreams they watch, while others find it difficult to recollect them. I remember hearing this dialogue in a Malayalam movie.

The human brain has answers to every question born out of human curiosity, that can satisfy our lust for knowledge. It is hidden from the conscious, beyond the sub-conscious, in the unconsious mind.

Idle mind is the devil’s workshop

True. I picture devil’s workshop as a place were everyone is doing something or the other. Making a plan or executing it. That means an idle mind and the devil’s workshop are two contradicting situations. The human mind can never be idle. It’s a truth, an unproven truth probably.

I came across a post that gives you tips on how to do nothing! But after reading it I thought that, instead of doing nothing you are actually doing something, something that could result in a brainstorm, topic for late night chat or even a new blog post.

So the next time you accuse yourself for feeling bored and doing nothing, relax, because you are doing something called nothing.

Dasavataram: Questions in my Mind.

Saw Dasavataram.

Writing yet another review will be meaningless, there are many reviews floating in the internet. These are the aftermaths after sitting through the movie. I was fascinated by the Kamal’s 10 faces, but a few did not express the human emotions, especially Kamal’s emotions and expressions. Because those faces were masks, and made me feel as though I was looking at dolls.

Some thoughts questioning the occurrences in the movie. You shall understand, if you have seen the film.
